Successful Mission for Philippe Jeudy and Louis van Proosdij, the two organizers of the first MobileWebCamp, which hosted over 150 participants this Saturday at the Winter Circus in Paris.
“The stakes are huge, with more than 3 billion mobile subscribers compared to slightly more than one billion web users, the MobileWeb has a huge potential with new technologies, new services” explained us Louis Van Proodj, co-organizer of the event.
As any other barcamp, the event hosted dozens of round tables, covering many topics such as the financing of mobile applications, content, W3C standards, geolocation services, mobile television, social networks or mobile payments. Apart from the sponsors Ten, Microsoft, Exalead, Streamezzo, Navteq, viaMichelin, Fon, Netineo and Netsize, many start-up were present : U-lik, Goojet, Webwag, Wayma, Vpod, DisMoiOù/TellMeWhere, FriendsClear, Pleex or Mobiluck.
Star of the day, the Apple iPhone was already in many pockets, and, despite a three hour Wifi network outage, helped to show may wap and mobile web applications.
At the end of the day, the big question is still whether MobileWeb is only a Web extension or, with new technologies like GPS and NFC it has enough significantly distinctive attributes that it can be considered to be a unique technology altogether. It seems that this is a question with an answer that will remain in abeyance pending the next edition of a MobileWebCamp, probably early in 2008 as confirmed us Philippe Jeudy.

The atmosphere was really nice and the place just great since it was far from what we could call a “geek place”.
You also did not mention the amazing amount of pizzas that where eaten on this day!
Definitely something to do again now and then.
Congrats to Philippe and Louis for the great job.
